Toddler Dictionary, 101

I feel like I am constantly interpreting Dylan's own language.  I thought...maybe I should write a dictionary for Dylan's daycare provider for when I go back to work.  So here goes...

kemnem = penguin
sikip = skip
sickiebu = biscuit
ewuh = elephant
bed = bread
maya = banana
pobby or powwy = potty
Goba = yogurt

That's pretty much the most interesting words I can think of.  Anytime he says something I don't understand (which is getting VERY rare), I can usually figure it out by mixing up the consonants and vowels to try to understand it.  ;-)

Movin' and Groovin'!

Dylan and I had a FABULOUS visit with our good friends Kelly and Lily!  Dylan wasn't sure what to do with another toddler in the house!  I was pretty proud of how well he did with sharing his toys and taking turns, for the most part.  We stayed very busy going to pools, the mall, Bonkers, and doing a lot of things at home - playdough, decorating cookies, fingerpainting, blowing bubbles, going for walks, and just having a good time!  Kelly and I are thinking that Dylan and Lily need to get married one day....we'd have all sorts of wonderful pictures for their wedding!  :-)

Packing for our big move is coming right along.  My mom came over today and helped me clean out my garage.  I've now gone through all of Dylan's baby clothes so that someone else can use them.  It was tough...I've been hanging on to them.  I'm not sure why, but there's something about giving away the precious tiny baby clothes!  It is nice to have a lot of extra room!

On the potty training front: I was ready to quit after the first day!  Dylan would not even sit on the potty ring that goes in the toilet, so I went out and bought a potty chair.  I found myself pushing it so hard that he was getting upset with me, so I decided to BACK OFF!  It seems to me that he is still a bit young, so I decided to listen to everyone's advice that he needs to do it when he is ready and go at his own pace.  So I started asking him if he wanted to go to the potty every time I changed his diaper, and at bathtime.  It seems that he now loves that!  Thanks to his wonderful daycare provider, he got an Elmo's potty songs book that is now his "potty time" book.  So he loves to go sit on the potty and read his book and chitchat with me for a while.  Then he gets up, cheers for himself, and moves on with his day!  That's as far as we've gotten so far, but I'm just happy that he's willing to try!  Tonight I was laying on the couch due to not feeling well and looked over to see him carrying his potty chair into the living room and saying "I pobby!!!"...so I made a big deal about that and we went on with our potty routine!  I am really learning the lesson that my child will do things when he is ready to do them!  And since I have really been trying to focus on that, I am able to relax and enjoy these moments much more!

A friend (thank you, Lori!) shared this post on her facebook status:

Biblical parenting doesn't come about by the changes we force on our children, but by the changes we allow God to make in us. A child when fully taught will be just like his teacher (Luke 6:40).

I love this, and am learning it first hand!

First real post!

I had trouble picking a title for my blog.  "You and Me" jumped out at me, because it is a book that I bought for Dylan when I was about 6 months pregnant with him.  "All we need is you and me...to be as happy as can be!"  "And no matter where we go, I will always love you so."  It is now one of his favorite books and he can finish each page for me.  So I thought it was fitting for my blog.

Dylan and I are enjoying our summer break!  Between visits to fountain parks, indoor playhouses, Granna and Papa's house, and multiple swimming pools, we are staying VERY busy!  Big goals for the remainder of the summer: begin potty training (yeah...I keep putting it off), and getting Dylan to try some new foods!  It is frustrating that he is such a picky eater....and it results in me fixing him a meal and just snacking on something myself (usually not healthy).  Which does not help my "physique" at all!  Although I am now working out around 3-4 times a week, and sometimes Dylan even joins in on my workouts!  Which usually ends in me having to stop because I am laughing so hard!  :-)

I put Dylan to bed earlier tonight than usual, and listened to him for an hour over the baby monitor.  He called out "Mama...are you????"  When I didn't come to play with him, he asked for Papa, Granna (Gaga), Ashley, Aunt Mel, and Lila (Katrina...not sure how he came up with that one).  Then he talked about cookies, horses, tigers, and more.  He has gotten so talkative!  I am loving every second of it!  Well, I take that back.  When he tells me "no", and chooses to go to timeout instead of doing what I want him to do...well, I don't love that.  :-)  He is a growing boy!  He tells me to call him "sweet boy", and I often do!

For those of you who "follow" my blog, thank you for taking interest in our lives!

Here we go!

I have actually joined the world of blogging.  Never thought this would happen!  So here we go!
